More Informed Consent and Open Disclosures

MANAGEMENT OF MEDICAL, NURSING, AND/OR TREATMENT PROCEDURES

We ensure that the person receiving services at the Cottage is fully informed and involved in decisions about the management of health-related problems. This would cover proposed treatments which include minor medical and nursing procedures, treatments, giving medicines and wound care. We ensure staff are appropriately trained and competent to carry out these procedures.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL WORK ASSESSMENT

The Cottage is required to obtain and keep on record all health and social work assessments. This is vital and enables appropriate management and care needs of the resident to be met.

CONSENT TO MONITORING

It is the policy of the Cottage to provide a restraint free environment, therefore this policy is to enable appropriate measures to be put in place in relation to the maintenance of a calm and harmonious environment and always know the whereabout of resident. You will only be asked to consent to this procedure if a reason has been established for monitoring. Documentation regarding this subject can be found in Opunake Cottage Rest Home Clinical Care.

INFLUENZA IMMUNISATION

It is the policy of the Cottage to administer Influenza Immunisation prior to winter. You have the right to decline the procedure.

PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING HEALTH RELATED INFORMATION

We require information necessary for planning and delivery of individualised care to meet the health needs of Resident. This enables us to provide our Residents with holistic care and the monitoring of that care.

Information may be obtained from the resident’s own General Practitioner, the Hospital, should the resident be hospitalised, or other allied health professionals.

If you have come from outside the local area you may be requested to complete a form authorising the release of your medical information from your General Practitioner. This information will be forwarded to a General Practitioner of your choice.

CONSENT FOR CHANGE OF ROOM

It is the policy of the Cottage to retain the right to move a resident from one area to another within the building, dependent on the level of needs of the resident.

NAME TO BE DISPLAYED ON BEDROOM DOOR

At the Cottage, the resident’s name is displayed on their door. This is to aid the resident to orientate to his/her room, and to aid the staff during an emergency evacuation.

ST JOHN MEMBERSHIP

We encourage all residents to join the St John Membership Supporter Scheme to enable subsidised fees for ambulance services. If you do not wish to join this, it is not compulsory.
